All Bodo Students Union (ABSU)


The All Bodo Students Union was one of the associate organisations of Bodo Sahitya sabha (Bodo literary Society). The first session of the Bodo Students Union was held at Kokrajhar in 1919 under the initiative of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. On February9, 1966 the Goalpara District Bodo Students Union was formed after a meeting held at Kokrajhar Tribal Rest House. Many resolutions were adopted in the first annual conference of the Goalpara District Bodo Students Union held on 9, 10 and 11 February, 1967. The Bodo Students were encouraged by the then Prime minister Indira Gandhi's declaration before the Mizo Union delegation on January 13, 1967 that Assam would be recognized on the basis of a federal structure. They felt the need for all India level Bodo Students Union. On February15, 1967 the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) was formed at a meeting held at Kokrajhar College. Hiracharan Narjinary and Kiranchandra Narjinary from West Bengal also attended the meeting. Hiracharan Narjinary was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of All Bodo Students Union.
